I got a really funny feeling of Deja Vu when I started seeing the stories about the 40th anniversary documentary about Monty Python. I just kept thinking didn’t we do this before?
I finally looked it up and low and behold there was a heavily hyped Python documentary for the 20th anniversary. It featured Steve Martin and I remembered anticipating that show for months before it actually aired. That was a single episode. It was 72 minutes according to IMDB.
But wait! That’s not the whole story. Wasn’t there that Eddie Izzard documentary. Why yes, there was a 30th anniversary Python documentary. I don’t think the Python’s have made anything new (except for documentaries) after about 1979 or 1980. Strangely, though, the 30th anniversary was three episodes and around 120 minutes.
So now, still no more new material, we have a 4oth anniversary documentary and it’s SIX episodes and nearly 300 minutes! What’s the deelio?
Oh well. I love Python. They were a huge influence on me from about 1972 when Scott and Glenn and I used to watch the episodes on the tiny 13 in b/w TV in my parent’s room.
The Spanish Inquisition. “I blow my nose at you.” African or European swallows? Fish slapping dance. Spam. Huge Tracts of Land. Upper Class Twit of the Year. All funny stuff. I’m definitely looking forward to the new documentary.
